Elle Lesiak's set at Omaha Fashion Week
When the environment you’re in breathes so much life into you, whether it be the people in the crowd or the actual show you are experiencing, it’s intoxicating. Omaha Fashion Week is a midwest fashion breath of life that always happens to bring a fire back into my creative brain. It’s nice to have such an inspiring fashion experience to immerse the community in a few times each year.
The UNL student showcase molds together the best parts of that world. Students both working the runway and designing for it. To me, it’s a whole new take. The people in the crowd created a whole new experience, students and their parents supporting students. You could feel the energy pulsating through the crowd whenever a model came down the runway.
I had the pleasure of talking to Elle Lesiak after the show and spoke about what inspired her to create her line and what she plans to do beyond graduating from college. Her looks were inspired from her family background and the fact that her brother is a professional bull rider. “Western wear will always be sprinkled into my collections,” Lesiak said. She plans to create a line in August of this year, including the warm tone look from the show. Her inspiration behind that look, oranges. She even finished off the look with a great pair of orange slice earrings.
She was a fashion merchandise major before she took the leap to take a design class and instantly got hooked. That’s what fashion does to you; it engulfs you in the best way and pushes you out of your comfort zone to really express and find yourself.
If you’ve never had the pleasure to experience Omaha Fashion Week, I say take that leap and go. After the show I felt so energized to create more and collaborate more within that realm.
Grab a friend, wear your favorite look, and dip your favorite boots into it. You won’t regret it.
